Rep. Bamidele Salam Receives Samson Ajao, Read-A-Thon Record Holder, Pledges Partnership on Literacy Initiatives
In a significant move to promote literacy and education, Rep. Bamidele Salam, a member of the House of Representatives, recently hosted Samson Ajao, the Read-A-Thon record holder, who visited to discuss potential collaboration on literacy development projects.
The meeting, held at Rep. Salam’s office in the National Assembly, was a celebration of Ajao’s outstanding achievement and a discussion of future collaborations aimed at improving literacy in the Ede federal constituency.
Guinness World Records recently officially recognised 27-year-old Samson Ajao from Osogbo for his incredible achievement of reading aloud for 215 hours, earning the title for the “longest marathon reading aloud” and making it one of the longest marathon record attempts in GWR history. Samson read over 100 books on topics including finance, sales, management, leadership, politics, health, and mental wellness.
Rep. Salam, who represents the people of Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency of Osun State in the Nigerian National Assembly, congratulated Ajao for his dedication and commitment to encouraging reading among young Nigerians.
Salam described Ajao’s accomplishment as a remarkable feat that has brought attention to the importance of literacy and education in the country.
During their meeting, the two leaders pledged to work together to enhance reading education in the constituency.
Ajao, who set the record for the longest reading marathon in the Read-A-Thon, expressed his desire to create more awareness about the power of reading, particularly among school children and young adults.
“We have a shared vision of fostering a culture of reading and lifelong learning in Ede federal constituency . By working together, we can ensure that more young people are equipped with the tools they need for success in life,” said Ajao.
Rep. Salam also emphasized the importance of partnerships between government, education advocates, and community leaders to create sustainable educational programmes.
“This initiative will go beyond symbolic gestures. We aim to provide meaningful support to schools, libraries, and community programmes that encourage reading,” Salam stated.
As part of their partnership, both Ajao and Salam discussed plans to organize reading events, literacy workshops, and donation drives for educational materials, which will directly benefit students across the constituency.
