Representative Bamidele Salam, representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency of Osun State, has been ranked among the top 20 most productive lawmakers in Nigeria’s House of Representatives Deliberations.

This recognition comes from the latest Legislative Productivity Index released by ERGAF-AFRICA, an independent policy think tank dedicated to strengthening democratic governance across Africa.

The ranking, featured in the June 14th, 2023–June 13th, 2024 First Session Report of the 10th National Assembly’s Deliberative Barometer and Policy Focus Productivity Report, was unveiled during a high-level policy dialogue held at the Conference Hall of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) in Abuja.

Rep. Salam was also named the top-performing lawmaker from Osun State, underscoring his strong legislative performance during the first session of the current Assembly.

The report was presented during a symposium themed: “Legislative Governance, Accountability and Productivity Index: An Insight Through the ERGAF-AFRICA NASS Deliberative Barometer and Policy Focus Report.” It represents a growing effort to promote transparency, accountability, and evidence-based evaluation of Nigeria’s lawmakers.

As Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Rep. Salam has played a pivotal role in legislative oversight.

His committee was recently recognised as top highest-performing standing committees by the House Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation, further affirming his influence and effectiveness within the legislature.

His contributions have not gone unnoticed at the highest levels of government.

During the 2025 Democracy Day joint sitting of the National Assembly, Rep. Salam was commended and applauded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, PhD and members of the both chambers, for his exemplary service.

The ERGAF-AFRICA Legislative Governance Innovation Hub, the body behind the report, assessed all 469 members of Nigeria’s National Assembly using comprehensive data from plenary sessions and committee activities. Key indicators included bills (895), motions (470), contributions to debates (507), committee reports (99), petitions (174), points of order (77), and matters of privilege (6).

Rep. Salam joins a distinguished list of top-ranking lawmakers including Deputy Speaker Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu (Abia), Majority Leader Hon. Ihonvbere Omozuanvbo Julius (Edo), and
Minority Leader Hon. Chinda Kingsley Ogundu (Rivers), who took first, second, and third positions respectively.

Reacting to the recognition, Rep. Salam expressed gratitude for the acknowledgment, emphasizing his continued commitment to impactful legislation and quality representation.

“I am honoured to be recognised among the top 20 most productive members of the House of Representatives. This acknowledgment reinforces my resolve to continue representing the interests of the people of Ede Federal Constituency, Osun State, and Nigeria at large with integrity, dedication, and purpose,” he stated.

He further pledged to intensify efforts on legislative initiatives targeting infrastructure development, education reform, youth empowerment, and national economic growth.

The ERGAF-AFRICA report is not only a tool for recognition but also a platform for citizen engagement and institutional accountability. Through its public dashboard and detailed policy report, citizens can track the performance of their representatives and better understand legislative processes.

With this latest recognition, Rep. Bamidele Salam continues to reinforce his reputation as a proactive, transparent, and people-oriented legislator, setting a benchmark for public service and effective governance within Nigeria’s National Assembly.
