Adeleke Commends ₦300 Million Education Boost As Rep. Bamidele Salam Empowers Osun Students And Teachers
Osun State recorded a major milestone in its education sector on Tuesday as students, teachers, and institutions across Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency benefited from a ₦300 million intervention spearheaded by Rep. Bamidele Salam, Member of the House of Representatives.
The event, which took place at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ede, featured the distribution of bursaries, school materials, and institutional grants to thousands of beneficiaries.
Adeleke Applauds Intervention
Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, who graced the occasion, described the initiative as a “timely and commendable effort” that complements his administration’s ongoing investment in education.
According to the governor, 1,500 tertiary students each received ₦100,000 bursaries, while over 3,000 pupils in primary and secondary schools were provided with textbooks, notebooks, and school bags. He also praised the allocation of ₦5 million to student associations and the Nigeria Union of Teachers across the four local governments.
“Education is the most powerful investment any society can make. While government is committed to supporting education, we value collaborative efforts like this that amplify impact and deliver meaningful change at the grassroots,” Adeleke said.
Salam Explains Motivation
In his remarks, Rep. Bamidele Salam explained that the programme was funded through allocations from the 2025 federal budget, redirected to address urgent educational needs.
“This effort is about ensuring no child is denied education because of poverty. A school bag may seem small, but in rural areas it makes all the difference. We are investing in students, their dreams, and the future of this constituency,” Salam stated.
He confirmed that between 3,000 and 4,000 individuals benefited directly from the intervention.
Broad Support From Stakeholders
The initiative also enjoyed strong backing from the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna, which coordinated the programme. Representing NTI’s Director General, Professor Sa’adiyya Sani Daura, staff member Aminu Musa pledged continued partnership in providing training and resources to Nigerian teachers.
Community leaders, educators, and traditional rulers present hailed the intervention as a model of grassroots representation, while students gave emotional testimonies about its impact on their education.
Student beneficiary Babalola Aliyat shared: “Some of us are using sac bags to carry books, some don’t even have writing materials. This programme has changed that, and we are grateful.”
Another student, Solomon Dabira, said: “We appreciate him for his love towards us. He just built us a school, and now he is giving us learning materials again.”
Building A Stronger Education System
Chairman of the Planning Committee, Akintayo Jimoh, emphasized that the bursaries were designed to ease the burden on parents battling economic hardship.
Governor Adeleke concluded by calling for sustained collaboration among government, lawmakers, educators, and communities.
“Together, we can raise a generation that will lead our state and nation to greater heights,” he declared.
