The BS-E4 Free Summer Class 2023 is the first of its kind that will include a Computer Literacy Training component for students to develop ICT skills useful for learning, networking and taking standardized tests and examinations.
The training held concurrently in 5 different ICT Centres across the 4 Local Government Areas in Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency of Osun State which Hon. Bamidele Salam represents in the House of Representatives, National Assembly, Abuja.
While the English and Maths holiday lesson holds from Mondays to Thursdays, the Computer Literacy Training holds on Fridays and Saturdays. The training was made successful with the collaboration of the management of 5 Schools whose ICT Centres were used to organize the training. The management of the following schools are hereby thanked and appreciated for granting the request to make use of their facilities to support educational service delivery in the Federal Constituency:
1. L. A. Primary School, Agbongbe in Ede
2. L. A. Primary School, Obada in Ede
3. Kings and Queens International College, Dada Estate in Egbedore Local Government
4. Alawo Grammar School, Awo in Egbedore Local Government
5. Ejigbo Baptist High School, in Ejigbo Local Government
It’s paramount to state that throughout the 4-week training, the program enrolled and trained over 300 secondary school students. They were taught the foundations of computer literacy with the Training Manual featuring modules such as Introduction to Computer Operations, Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Internet Use, Search Engine and Working with Google Applications and the last but not the least Computer Based Test where the students were exposed to the rudiments of Jamb CBT through practical sessions.
It’s instructive to state that the Training Manual was freely given to all students to facilitate the learning properly.
The enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated by these students is enough to conclude that government at all levels must prioritize the inclusion of digital and ICT skills development in educational curriculum and support it with the provision of adequate facilities to achieve the purposes outlined in the curriculum. This will go a long way in bridging the gap of Information Technology lacking in our progress and development as a nation.
